The Ploesti Raid, was the first low-level bombing mission, carried out by heavy bombers of the USAAF-United States Army Air Force. The size and scope of the plan was beyond belief. It involved hundreds of bombers and hundreds of airman. It had never been tried before. It would be a testbed for future missions.
