About
A bit About me. I just recently turned 63! Even harder to believe that’s it’s been over forty years, since I was in the military. I am currently semi-retired, and still married to my beautiful wife, going on 39 years.
My first memory of anything military, occurred when I was five years old. It all started with a faded picture of a grandfather, who had been in WWI, but whom I had never known.
The next event, was finding an old bomber jacket in a hidden closet. From there, I learned of my dads Army Air Force days, as a Navigation Instructor. Shortly thereafter, an uncle who had been in the Navy, recounted part of a story, that would haunt me for over thirty some years.
I joined the Air Force in 1967, and spent four years on active duty. I served with the 48th APS-Air Police Squadron, 48th TFW-Tactical Fighter Wing at RAF Lakenheath, 3- months at RAF W. Raynham, two years at RAF Sculthorpe and my final year with the 380 SPS at Plattsburgh, N.Y.
Stories that I am writing and perhaps a book or two in the future, are Seeds of History-Three distinct memories of my families military history, Fun and Drama in a Blue Uniform, about my Civil Air Patrol Days, and funny, dramatic and sad stories of my Air Force Days. The latter includes my brief friendship with Paul Meyers, who stole a plane and vanished over the English Channel and a strange assignment, protecting James Earl Ray-the assassin of Martin Luther King. amongst others.
Back in 2000, I was injured in a construction accident, and found myself out of work for 18 months. During that time, I learned how to build a website. Later that year, my mother handed be freezer bags full of yellowed letters. They were from my grandfather, who had served in WWI.
From there, things really took off, and I started to research my families military history. I developed three updates to the original military site, which I had for six years, then let it lapse.
I’ve had a long fascination with our families military history and general military history of all era’s. My mother, who has done lots of family genealogy, has given me an insight into her families history from the Revolutionary War to the Civil War.
Our middle son, joined the Marines, the year before 9/11. Afterwards, he was one of the first, to go into Afghanistan, via Pakistan. When the war in Iraq started, he was one of the unfortunate to get stop loss orders. He went to Kuwait then Iraq. We were fortunate to get him back in one piece, but still pray for those in harms way.
I am now semi-retired and work part-time. It allows me time to make a few bucks on the side, and gives me time, to keep up with this blog.
Thanks for stopping by,
Sgt. Mac
